Birdhouse Boot
Materials:
old rubber rain boots
scissors
wood slates
assorted acrylic paint
paintbrushes
staple gun
screwdriver
screws
pencil
* Note: Adult supervision will be needed throughout this project.
Steps:
- Cut a hole on front of boot just above where the foot of the boot joins the ankle. This is easily done by folding boot and cutting a half-circle into material.
- Prepare two wood slates. One slate should be 1/2-inch shorter than the other so that the two will fit together when attached to sides of boot. The slates should be around the same width as the boot. Paint any color and allow to dry.
- Staple slates to sides of boot. Leave some room at the top of each slate.
- Attach slates with screws and screwdriver. Holes can be pre-drilled to make things easier. A power screwdriver also works well. The slates will create an inverted "V" over the boot. This is the roof. This can also be a decorating stage to paint the boot and add designs.
- Use scissors to punch a small hole below the circle that acts as the entrance to the boot. Insert a small pencil (eraser end facing out) into the hole to create a perch. The pencil can be painted as well.
Puzzle-Piece Picture Frame
Materials:
puzzle pieces
school glue
paper plate
cardboard frame
paint
glitter
Steps:
- Place any pieces from an incomplete puzzle on a paper plate and paint. To cover pieces with glitter, brush each piece with glue and drop in a baggie with a small amount of glitter. Shake the baggie.
- Glue decorated puzzle pieces to a cardboard frame. This is a wonderful gift for a friend!
