  • Send out fun and interesting invitations fashioned after a circus ticket on colored craft paper (figure A), delivered in an animal crackers carton.

  • Rent a tent or create the feel of the big top inside by streaming crepe paper from the center of the room around to the edges (figure B). Use putty to hold the paper to the ceiling.

  • Plan plenty of activities (more than you think you will have time for), beginning with the most active ones, moving to calmer games, finishing with the food. Some fun options are Pin the Tail on the Elephant (figure C), ring toss and musical chairs, using circus music.

  • Serve food like a vendor at a circus. Make a tray by cutting off the bottom of a box and spray painting it. Make holes on the sides and string through rope to use as a shoulder harness (figure D).

  • Make a homemade clown cake (figure E) with pound cake, sprinkles, candy and an ice cream cone for a hat.

  • When the party is over, turn party hats upside down to use as buckets for take-away treats, favors and candy.
