Figure B
Stars-and-Stripes Candlesticks

Designer Jaquelin Quarles-McCoy shares a great idea for transforming woodturned candlesticks into "firecrackers."

Materials:

woodturned candlestick
white acrylic paint
red, blue paint
gold, silver paint pens
various color, stick-on "teacher stars"
ball of floral clay
floral glitter sticks

Steps:

  1. Apply a base coat with white acrylic paint. Let dry.

  2. Follow the natural lines of the candlestick and alternate red and blue stripes (figure A). Let dry.

  3. Use gold and silver paint pens to embellish with stars and additional striping.

  4. Add various color, stick-on "teacher stars" for additional interest.

  5. Insert a ball of floral clay into the top of the candlestick and add floral glitter sticks cut to desired length (figure B).
