Figure A
Carol and crew traveled to the 1998 National Art Material Trade Association show in Las Vegas and focused in on exhibitor Theresa Airey, who employs new technology to produce old-fashioned black-and-white "photography."

Materials
computer with a scanner and printer
black and white photograph
watercolor paper
pastel colored pencils
kneaded eraser
facial tissue or cotton ball

Steps
  1. Scan black and white photograph using computer scanner and print the image on watercolor paper.

  2. Color selected areas lightly using pastel pencils (figure A).

  3. Soften pencil lines and distribute color using tissue or a cotton ball.

  4. Lift color off the page and correct mistakes using a kneaded eraser.

  5. Put highlights in and add background color. Add yellow highlights to produce a "glow" on the photographs.
