Figure D
Project designed by Ken Brown.

Materials:

14" x 16" piece of medium-weight, off-white paper
soft pencil
ruler
giant felt marker

Steps:

1. Draw two sets of horizontal guide lines, positioning them 7 inches apart on paper.

2. Draw light vertical lines as guides.

3. Letter word "Love" on the paper using a giant marker.

Stenciling Calligraphy

Materials:

calligraphy of word "LOVE" (see above)
sharp craft knife
clear plastic stencil material
stencil brush
stencil paint
painter's tape

Steps:

1. Place paper with calligraphy on a piece of cardboard.

2. Place a sheet of clear stencil material over letters and tape securely (figure A).

3. Precisely cut outline of each letter with a sharp craft knife and remove from the stencil sheet.

4. Cut the left half of the "O." Move to the right slightly on the stencil sheet and cut the right half. This will yield two half-moon pieces that will be properly positioned together to form the "O" when stenciling (figure B).

5. Cut the "E" in the same manner.

6. Draw light pencil baseline on the wall where the stencil will appear.

7. Position the stencil sheet with baseline of letters aligned with line on the wall.

8. Load the stencil brush with paint and stencil edge of cutouts where letters were removed. Fill in the body of letters with a larger stencil brush (figure C).

9. Position the letter segments of the "O" and the "E" so each letter can be stenciled in two steps and be perfectly registered to form the complete letter (figure D).
