For a special dessert, have the bakery design a cake with a picture of the house on it in frosting.
Dana Christine, a family activities and entertaining expert, shares tips for a housewarming party.
  • Photocopy a picture of the new house onto the invitation so that on the day of the party, guests will have an easier time identifying the house.

  • If gifts are not desired, be sure to mention that on the invitations.

  • Clean the entire house the day before the party. Guests will expect a tour.

  • A great way to get guests to explore the new home is by setting up various food and drink stations in different rooms in the house. Appetizers can be set out in the living room, drinks in the study, main dishes in the dining room and dessert and coffee in the kitchen.

  • Because most guests have never been to the house before, put a colored light bulb in the yard or a porch-light fixture to help them locate it.

  • Hand out nametags that resemble a welcome mat.

  • Print "welcome" on cocktail napkins.

  • If going to a housewarming party, wrap the gift in the real-estate section of the newspaper.

  • If the new house has a large yard, bring something to plant in the yard as the housewarming gift. Example are seedlings, bulbs or even a small tree.
