Figure D
Project designed by Suze Weinberg.

Materials:

Tria alcohol-based inks - variety of bright colors
non-linting cotton applicator or felt
rubber gloves
real eggs blown out
egg-blowing kit
alcohol in a fine mist spray bottle
glitter glue
beads
ultra thick embossing enamel
heat gun
stamps
permanent ink

1. Use the egg-blowing kit (figure A) to blow out the contents of the egg. Use the same kit to wash out the inside of the egg once its contents are emptied. Set the egg aside.

2. Wearing rubber gloves, squeeze a few colored drops of alcohol ink right next to one another on the applicator (figure B). Place three to five colored drops next to one another. These colors will not blend the way dye inks do (figure C ). Too many colors can eventually become muddy.

3. Dab the applicator onto the surface of the egg. The inks will move around to form patterns that resemble the inner cuttings of rock or stone (figure D). Add additional droplets to the applicator as needed or to change colors.

4. While the inks are still wet on the egg surface, lightly mist them with alcohol from a spritzer bottle to cause them to spread out even further.

5. After the eggs are thoroughly colored and the alcohol has dried, add embellishments such as glitter glue or glass beads and set aside until the glue dries. For added texture, simply hold a heat gun to the surface of the egg to warm it and sprinkle on embossing powder. Use the heat gun again to melt the powder. Add embossing enamel.

Tips:

  • To stamp the egg, color it and stamp it with permanent ink before emptying the contents of the egg.
  • To make sure the egg doesn't crack when applying beads or stones, wrap Wonder Tape around the perimeter of the egg.
