Folding Card
Craft expert Carol Scheffler provides ideas for simple projects that can personalize a gift of money. Though Scheffler used fake money in these projects, they'll all work fabulously with genuine U.S. currency.

Folding Card

Materials:

heavy paper stock
colored paper
dollar bills
paper clips

Steps:

  1. Make a folding card out of heavy paper stock.

  2. Attach cute little pockets of colored paper that are fashioned to look like takeout food cartons.

  3. Insert a bill into each pocket.

  4. Make little handles for the pockets with paper clips.

Money Book

Materials:

stack of crisp, new dollar bills
small chip clip
rubber cement
colored construction paper
scissors

Steps:

  1. Collect a stack of crisp, new bills and align the edges.

  2. Use a small chip clip to hold the bills in place.

Figure B
  • Apply a line of rubber cement along one of the short edges (figure A). Allow the cement to dry for about 10 minutes.

  • While that's drying, cut a piece of colored construction paper to the same width as the money, though just over twice as long.

  • Place another bead of cement in the center of the paper, attach the stack of bills and allow to dry (figure B).

  • Decorate the front of the booklet and present to the lucky person.

    Paper Chain

    Materials:

    dollar bills
    small ornament of choice

    Steps:

    1. Make a neat paper chain of money. To make each link, fold the long edges of a bill into the center, then fold again to create a narrow strip.

    2. Fold each end of the strip to the center, then fold that in half.

    3. Attach the links.

    4. Decorate the chain with a little ornament on each end.

    Folding Technique

Fold money into shapes and attach to card stock with removable glue. One idea is to create a woven money pattern. Place the finished piece in a frame for a gift that's as beautiful as it is practical (figure C).
