Unusual Gift Wraps
Your Holiday Home : Episode YHH-107 -- More Projects »
Pete Nelson from the Design Group points out offbeat ways to wrap Christmas presents. Click the image below to watch a video of several of the techniques.
Figure A--Wrap an odd-shaped gift such as a bottle of wine in bubble wrap. Use floral paint to paint the wrap. The paint is available at most floral shops and will also change the texture of the bubble wrap. Garnish with a bow, some Christmas garland and small bulbs.
Figure B--Make the wrapping part of the gift. Use a hair scarf for a ribbon, and secure it with hair clips.
Figure C--Wrap some bracelets that can be used as hair scrunchies around the bows to add some glitter to the wrapping.
Figures D and E--Turn a shoebox into a miniature steamer trunk with just a few supplies. Paint the shoebox, then add a coat of crackling liquid to give it a wood-grain finish. Metal corner brackets are available at a hardware store, and the decals can be found in kits at craft stores. Cover the box with a final coat of walnut stain to age it. Wrap the box with a nylon dog collar, and for a final touch, snap on a luggage tag that contains the gift tag.
Figure F--Don't toss those remnants of ribbons away when wrapping gifts. Save them and create a luscious, layered wrap on a plain gift box.
Figure G--Weave ribbon pieces into a pattern on top of a box, and staple the ends on the inside lip of the box.
Figure H--Think big when wrapping large gifts. Buy a large canvas and decorate it with an appropriate motif such as golf terms when wrapping a golf bag. Sew on a felt stocking and fill it with accessories such as golf balls.
Figure I--For a final touch, make a garland out of a string of beads and golf tees.
