Crafter Marthe LeVan has clever ideas for using hardware to display flowers.

  • Use a brightly colored oil can to display a single flower stem. Just cut off the top and sand it lightly before inserting flowers.

  • Use a drain cover as a flower grid for arranging flowers. Simply place the cover in the mouth of a vase and insert stems through the holes (figure A).

  • You can also use hardware cloth, which is a mesh grid, as an aid in arranging flowers (figure B).

  • Porch lights make inexpensive vases. Decorate them with electrical tape, which comes in a variety of bright colors. It can be stretched to adhere to the irregular surface of the light fixture (figure C).

  • Use wire brushes to make a table arrangement (figure D). Simply insert a wire brush on top of a spring (found in the door department at the hardware store) and display in a metal heat ductwork.
