Pizza boxes painted and glued together make an inexpensive filing system.
Design students Teresa Miller and Erin Long offer daring dorm décor ideas.

  • Privacy is sometimes an issue in a dorm room. Furniture arrangement can help create separate zones.

  • Beds can be used for soft seating by adding a fluffy comforter and lining the walls with colorful pillows for a couch effect. Colorful panels made from fiberboard covered with bright fabric can be attached to the wall with hook and loops. The panels double as bulletin boards.

  • Fabric can easily transform a boring room--either a panel of fabric or even a shower curtain can be attached to the wall or window with hook and loop or double sticky tape.

  • Other ways to add color to a room include using a beach towel as an area rug and draping a chair with a bright sheet.

  • Packing boxes can be covered with fabric and used as a nightstand.

  • Add paper storage to a desktop by cutting off the front of pizza boxes and gluing them together. They can be spray painted or covered for more punch.
