Tabletop Christmas Trees
Your Holiday Home : Episode YHH-106 -- More Projects »
Pete Nelson from The Design Group has some colorful ideas for table trees, including a tiny present tree.
Figure A--This tiny present tree is based around a plastic foam cone, as are the other trees. The small packages are matchboxes that have been individually wrapped. The fun thing about this tree is that the small matchboxes can contain trinkets, candies or other small items such as ornaments that children can open each day.
Figure B--Red and gold are very popular colors during the holiday season. Although intricate in appearance, this tree is only drapery cord that has been hot glued all the way down the plastic foam cone. The cone is planted in a regular pot that has been spray painted. Small ornaments are pinned through the cord and into the cone.
Figure C--A layering effect is implemented with this birch tree, a slab of which can be obtained from a craft store and cut into separate chunks. Three plates are used to create this tree: a dinner plate, a salad plate and a charger. The plates should be spaced among the birch tree pieces in a wedding cake fashion, which gives the appearance that the birch branch is rising through the plates. The exterior decorations are preserved greens, potpourri, dried berries, pine cones and cinnamon sticks.
Figure D--This very glamorous topiary tree features metallic colors such as copper, gold and silver that are in huge demand for this holiday season. The bulk of the topiary is two different sized plastic foam balls with glass ornaments, also of varied sizes, hot glued directly onto the surface. Wire-rimmed ribbon is stuck into any openings to close the gaps. A painted wooden dowel supports the plastic foam, which is, in turn, supported by plastic foam in the planter bottom.
Figure E--Metal sheeting creates a table tree that guests will probably have never seen before. Star shapes have been cut into the sheeting and backed with window screening. Aside from beads and jewels, more metal sheeting has been cut and fringed to frame the eye-catching pieces. Place a tap light or other light source into the planter to show off at night.
