Thanksgiving Table Settings
Your Holiday Home : Episode YHH-104 -- More Projects »
The dinner table is a central part of Thanksgiving entertaining. Host Sharon Anderson meets with designer Craig Olson for some creative ways to bring personality and style to table settings. He offers ideas for styles ranging from a traditional look mixing different patterns of china to a modern look using silver accents. Olson also shares some centerpiece ideas, including using a mix of real and silk roses for a lush floral display.
Figure A--Craig Olson of Dayton's Interior Design Studio says this traditional table setting combines crystal and china pieces handed down from his two grandmothers. The different patterns and styles work well together to bring a warm, familiar feel to the Thanksgiving table.
Figure B--This floral centerpiece combines real and silk roses to bring a Victorian look to the dinner table. The fresh roses can be purchased three to four days in advance, but be sure to keep water in the display vase.
Figure C--This setting uses a new pattern on the plates called Winterland Birds that combines birds, holly leaves and ribbons. The pattern works throughout the holidays, and would look great on Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner tables.
Figure D--Metallic colors and styles are combined with traditional Thanksgiving elements to create a sophisticated urban look to the holiday table. Real autumn items such as grapes, pumpkins and squash are painted silver, and a beautiful silver service completes the look.
