Throwing a Beach Party
TIPical Mary Ellen : Episode TIP-803 -- More Projects »
Entertaining expert Dana Christine shares some great tips for throwing a beach party.
- Instead of purchasing a new tablecloth, simply go to your local craft store and purchase fabric and fashion your own. Give your table a seashore theme by placing fishnet over the fabric (figure A).
- Purchase seashells at your local pet store and use them as decorations.
- Small cleaned-out shells are a fun way to serve salt and pepper. Just adhere the shells to a small dish with putty or glue, then fill with salt and pepper. Use small salt and pepper spoons to serve.
- Get creative with your lighting. Pour little sand dunes over the table, then place seashells and tea lights over the "dunes."
- For added decor put pieces of sea glass--a type of glass in which the edges have been smoothed over by sand--on your table.
- Make sure to play some beachy music.
Make a fun place card out of a small fish bowl and a sand dollar. Tie a string around the sand dollar, write your guests name on the place card, and tie the string around the bowl (figure B).
To make a creative invitation, cut a foot form out of foam (figure C). Next, cut a small slit in the center of the foot form. Cut two similar-size strips and staple together. Push the strips through the slit and staple. Staple the opposite ends of the strips. Write out your invitations on the foam, place in an envelope, and send.
