Materials:
clear glass cylindrical hurricanes or votive holders
tissue paper (or somewhat sheer paper) in shades of orange, red and yellow
rice paper, transparent art papers
contact paper (clear and white)
cellophane paper in orange and black
paper and pencil
sharp utility knife
double-faced tape or clear cellophane tape
Jack-o'-Lantern
Steps:
- Measure the height of the hurricane to be covered and cut a strip of tissue paper to that measurement. Cut another one of a contrasting color the same size.
- Cut out a jack-o'-lantern face free hand, or draw it first, and then cut it out with a craft knife (figure A).
- Put the piece of tissue paper that hasn't been cut under the piece with the design.
- Wrap both pieces around the hurricane (figure B), removing any excess from the back. Fasten with tape (figure C).
- Put a candle inside and light.
Skeleton Face
Steps:
- Draw a pattern of a skeleton face, and cut it out using a craft knife. Trace that pattern, several times onto a piece of white contact paper (figure D).
- Cut the skeletons out of the contact paper with the craft knife.
- Peel the backing and stick them to the hurricane (figure E).
- Wrap a sheet of the orange cellophane paper around the hurricane and tape into place (figure F).
- Place candle inside and light.
