The next time you need to keep food warm on a buffet but don't want to use an open flame, try these tricks:

  • Soak a brick in water. Wrap it in foil and heat in a 300-degree oven for an hour. Place on a trivet and situate food on top (see photo).

  • Try this technique with a marble slab, too. Spritz with water before heating in oven. Put little felt circles on the bottom of the slab to protect table. Any sort of tile would work with this technique.
