  • They can be peeled off and the residue rubbed with nail-polish remover. Wash as usual.

  • Purchase the type of foil tape (available at most hardware stores) that is used to seal joints (figure A). It should cost about $4 per 10 yards. Cut a strip of tape and tape it down to a cutting surface. Position a stencil on the tape, and using an inexpensive craft knife, cut the outer edges of the stencil (figure B). Remove the stencil and connect any unfilled in lines. Remove the paper backing and position design on the edge of the plate (figure C).

  • Stencils aren't necessary to create interesting designs. Scissors work well for this tuxedo glass (figure D). Use a hole punch for the circles. Draw the bowtie on the paper side of the tape and cut out.

  • Create just the right mood for a tropical party with dishes decorated with palm trees and fish (figure E). Simply draw the design on the paper side of the tape and cut out.

  • Dress the glasses in hula skirts (figure F). Cut a strip of tape the diameter of the glass. Make vertical cuts along the bottom of the tape, leaving a 1/2-inch border at the top.

  • Designs are limited only by the imagination--try hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades for a card party. Using various shapes on each plate can be helpful in identifying plates at a buffet.
