Solid electrical wire can be bent around glasses to create whimsical shapes.

Entertaining expert Jeanne Benedict tells how to use inexpensive electrical cording from the hardware store to change the look of stemware. (Solid, insulated 12-gauge wire works well for this project.)

Materials:

stemmed glass
inexpensive electrical cording or wire

Steps:

  1. Make a hook with the wire at the bottom of the stem and wrap it around the glass, working your way around it.

  2. Shape the rest of the wire into the desired shape--hearts, spirals, animals, etc.--above the rim of the glass.

* Note: Be sure the design does not interfere with the rim from which you drink.
