Creative Centerpieces
TIPical Mary Ellen : Episode TIP-445 -- More Projects »
Creative expert Dana Christine joins shows how easy it is to put together attractive table centerpieces for a dinner party.
- Use books as a simple theme centerpiece for a graduation party. Purchase used books from garage sales or used bookstores. Add a calculator, dictionary and make a vase out of a glue bottle or a candleholder out of a paste container (figure A).
Teapots can be found at garage sales and flea markets, and they are relatively inexpensive. Place small bouquets of various flowers inside the pots, and add cups and saucers, lots of tea bags, a lace tablecloth and lace gloves (figure B).
To make floating candles more attractive, take a flower frog and place in the bottom of a vase with a rose stuck in it. Cover the frog with marbles. Fill the vase with water and top with a floating candle (figure C).Fill a large container with dried beans and arrange tea lights in the beans (figure D).Make a garden "tablescape" for a centerpiece. Include a straw hat, packets of seeds, garden gloves, a terra cotta pot filled with a potted flower or a small birdhouse.Make small vases out of small tea canisters.Fill a large container with pine cones and place a candle in the center.Put some small goldfish in a bowl, and use it as a centerpiece for a child's birthday party. Aquarium decorations can be purchased at any pet store and placed in the bowl. Tie some balloons around the bowl and throw on some glitter and seashells for that extra touch. Make sure to wait to the last minute to purchase the goldfish.
