Keepsake Cookbook
Smart Solutions : Episode SSL-217 -- More Projects »
Author Kathy Steligo talks about how to turn family recipes into a family heirloom by collecting them in a cookbook. She shows how to organize, decorate and create themed versions.
- Use decorative papers, which are available at craft and office-supply stores (figure A). Type old recipes on the paper or load decorative paper into the computer printer. Attach a photo of Aunt Edna or Grandma next to their recipes.
- Glue a handwritten recipe that has been handed down onto a full-size, decorative page (figure B).
- Glue a handwritten recipe and a family picture to a larger page (figure C) .
- Organize pages into sections such as "Summer," "Winter," "Uncle John," "Favorite Cakes," etc.
- Create a table of contents after you've determined the order and numbered the pages.
- Create the cover of the book using a photograph of the family or a favorite vacation spot glued to the front.
- Give the cookbooks themes, such as Christmas, Thanksgiving and Mother's Day.
