To neutralize odors, slice a lemon and place in a dish and place in a 200-degree oven for 20 minutes (figure A).Remove odors from plastic storage containers, by trying one of the following: Place in the sun for one to two hours, then cover and put in the freezer for one to two hours. Fill with filter carbon (typically used for aquariums), cover and leave for about a week (figure B).Clean garbage containers by pouring cat litter into an old pair of pantyhose and placing it at the bottom of the can. It will absorb both moisture and odors (figure C).To neutralize strong odors like fish and onions, pour about one cup of vinegar into one cup of water and boil until almost evaporated.To remove residue and odor from tomato sauce, fill with white vinegar, cover and leave for one to two hours.To clean a garbage disposal, pour in one cup undiluted bleach, which will kill bacteria without harming the pipes, or chop up the stems of aromatic herbs and place them in the disposal.Open a box of baking soda and leave it in the refrigerator to absorb odors. It can also be used to clean surfaces by adding to a little water to make a gentle abrasive solution. It will leave a residue, so spritz with a little vinegar and wipe dry.
