  • Make a good all-purpose household cleaner by mixing two cups warm water, one tablespoon of washing soda (available in the laundry section of most supermarkets), one teaspoon borax, a teaspoon of castile soap and 20 drops of tea-tree oil. Pour into a spray bottle and label.

  • To make an all-purpose bathroom cleaner, add 1/2 cup vinegar, castile soap and some lavender essential oil to a bucket filled with warm water.

  • To make your own dish soap, refill an old dish-soap bottle with two cups water, castile soap, a couple of squirts vegetable glycerin, and a few drops of chamomile essential oil. Shake to mix.
