Can openers can be a breeding ground for bacteria, so they need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Here's a few quick tips for how to do that:

  • Wipe the cutting blade each time you use it.

  • Wipe the tops of cans with a damp cloth before opening.

  • Frequently remove the blade and soak it in warm soapy water (see photo), then rub it with mineral oil to prevent rust.
