Household Uses for Lemons
Smart Solutions : Episode SSL-411 -- More Projects »
Marie Rama, a spokesperson for Sunkist Lemons, reveals multipurpose uses for lemons.
- Not only do lemons smell fresh, but the acid in lemons is also good for cleaning.
- After juicing a lemon, use the remainder to moisten dry elbows.
- Clean the copper bottoms of pots with a half lemon sprinkled with salt. Just hold the lemon firmly and scrub with the flat side of the half-lemon.
- Bartenders can clean their whole bar top with just a lemon and salt!
- When grilling fish, avoid sticking by grilling on top of some lemon slices. This will infuse the fish with flavor as well.
- Another wonderful cleanser is a mixture of four cups water and one cup white-wine vinegar. To neutralize the harsh smell, take some lemon peels, twist several times, then add directly to the solution. The smell is fresh and invigorating.
- Dried lemon slices make a great decoration, especially during the holidays. Place lemon slices on a cookie-drying rack, then cook in a 175-degree oven for four to six hours. The slices will come out brittle. Use the slices to decorate wreaths, bottles, potpourris, or even gift boxes.
- Six or seven whole lemons look great in a clear glass vase. Use the lemons to anchor flowers and hide the stems. After adding water to the vase, notice how the lemons are magnified, creating a unique visual look.
