A plate filled with fruit and a few plants can become an instant centerpiece.

Entertaining expert Norma Zager shows ways to transform a messy house into a party-ready pad in less than an hour by using some of the following simple ideas and techniques.

Slide all things that are clutter into a box and place it in the closet. After the party is over, you can find a home for each of the items.
To make a buffet area, use two tables or cabinets that are close to the same height. Level them by using books and place a piece of plywood on top. Cover the board with a bright cloth.
Always keep colorful paper napkins in the house.
Instead of using paper plates, buy real ones at garage sales. Mix and match patterns to lend character to the table.
Cover a computer monitor with a box. Drape the box with pretty fabric and set a plant or other decoration on the box's level top.
To quickly rid a home of odors, spray pieces of paper with a favorite perfume. Place the paper in strategic places throughout the house such as between couch cushions.
For a centerpiece, arrange a plant or two and some fruit on a plate in the center of the table.
