To handle a grease spill on carpet, sprinkle a generous amount of talcum powder on the stain and allow it to sit for approximately 30 minutes before vacuuming.
TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham shares ideas for using talcum powder around the home.
  • To keep shoes dry and comfortable, lightly powder the insides with talcum powder.

  • Dust the insides of rubber gloves with talcum powder to help them slip on easier.

  • To absorb grease stains from carpet, cover the stain with talcum powder. Vacuum after a few hours.

  • When camping, use talcum powder to dry-wash hair. Rub into hair, then brush out.

  • When shaving with an electric razor, lightly sprinkle legs or face with powder to prevent friction burns.

  • Untangling a chain necklace can be difficult, but to make the job easier, dust the chain with talcum powder. Use a safety pin to help dislodge really sticky knots.

  • Fill a leftover talcum powder bottle with flour and keep it handy in the kitchen. It's very useful as a way to sprinkle flour on counters and dough when baking. Be sure to take the top off and run the bottle through the dishwasher first, otherwise baked goods could wind up tasting like talc.
