Vacuuming and Dusting

TIPical Mary Ellen : Episode TIP-346 -- More Projects »
TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham shares her ideas for effectively dusting and vacuuming a house.
  • Vacuum upholstery once a week. This will prevent dust from settling into the cloth, thus lessening the need to professionally clean it.

  • If you prefer dusting items by hand rather than vacuuming, try using a wedge foam brush, socks, soft paintbrushes and ultra suede. Cotton gloves also work well for getting into those hard-to-reach areas.

  • Use a lamb's-wool dusting wand when dusting books by hand.

  • Use a paintbrush or hair dryer when dusting a pleated lampshade.

  • Make sure that you always have a clean bag in the vacuum cleaner so that the suction is at its maximum power.
