TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham shares easy tips for using leftover bottles around the house.

  • Pour sugar into a cleaned-out milk jug and replace the cap. The sugar will now be easy to pour and will no longer lump.

  • Use a plastic-handled bottle as a birdfeeder. Cut out a section of the jug on the side opposite the handle. Fill with birdseed and hang from a tree branch.

  • Store birdseed in a recycled plastic jug. This will keep not only keep it fresh, but it will also be easier to refill empty birdfeeders.

  • Use an empty squirt bottle as a bellows for starting a fire or for blowing out dust from hard-to-reach places such as a computer keyboard.

  • Fill a clean chocolate-syrup bottle with pancake batter, then use it to make unique pancake shapes.

  • Use a laundry jug as a buoy by tying a rope to it as well as the anchor at the opposite end.
