Clean a wooden picture frame by pouring a few drops of oil on a cloth and rubbing the frame gently.
Host Mary Ellen Pinkham provides ideas for dusting and cleaning around the house.
  • Dust more often and cleaning will be easier. Buy a feather duster and dust knickknacks and other items a couple of times a week. Dust eventually turns to grime, which is much harder to clean.

  • Only clean items that are dirty.

  • Picture-frame glass can be cleaned with a regular glass cleaner. To clean a picture or print, gently wipe on window cleaner. Do not spray the cleaner directly on a frame because it could seep onto the photo or print.

  • Plexiglas must be cleaned with an acrylic Plexiglas cleaner.

  • If the items in a china or curio cabinet get extremely dusty, seal the doors tighter by attaching self-adhesive foam weather stripping to the inside of the doors.

  • Another way to clean knickknacks is to put them all on a tray and submerge them into a solution of soapy water or under a fine shower spray.

  • Put starch on doilies to avoid dust collection and help them maintain their shape.

  • Clean ceramic lamp bases by wiping them down with a damp cloth. For metal bases, refer to cleaning instructions for the particular metal.
