TIPical Mary Ellen : Episode TIP-147 -- More Projects »
Host Mary Ellen Pinkham and window expert Stacy Einck demonstrate numerous tips for cleaning and caring for windows and doors.
  • Give finished windows a fine shine by rubbing them with a clean chalkboard eraser .

  • Keep frost from forming on windows in cold weather by rubbing the outside glass with alcohol or salt water. Polish with a soft cloth.

  • Use fast-drying model airplane glue to patch small holes in screens.

  • Rub a candle or bar of soap along the tracks of windows and sliding glass doors to keep them opening smoothly.

  • Hold drapes out of the way by looping them through a coat hanger, then hooking the hanger on the curtain rod.

  • Add a tablespoon or two of vinegar to your window wash water for shiny panes.

  • Pure rubbing alcohol is a great window cleaner.

  • Wash the inside of windows from right to left and the outside from top to bottom . Now if you see a streak you know what side of the glass it lives on.

  • Use a soft toothbrush or cotton swab to clean inside corners of windows.
