Author Don Aslett shows how to thoroughly clean a bathroom in less than four minutes.
- The key to ridding bathroom surfaces of hard-water stains is to use a mild phosphoric cleaner (available at the grocery store). This will dissolve hard water on contact.
- Have all your tools available to you in a plastic caddy as you clean. The $2 investment will save you loads of time.
- Bleach and powdered cleansers are two things you should NOT have in the bathroom. They are oxidized and won't clean effectively.
- Use a disinfectant cleaner on the bathtub, along with a nylon scrubbing pad. Make sure the nylon pad is wet when you use it.
- Keeping the shower clean requires a preventative tool--the squeegee. Each time you shower, squeegee the surfaces. This slashes cleaning time later--all that will be needed is the occasional wiping down with a little phosphoric cleaner.
- A disinfectant cleaner works well on sinks. Spray down the sink and allow it to sit for three minutes before wiping clean. Use a grout brush instead of a toothbrush to hit buildup around the edges. A grout brush is a far more effective tool.
- Spray down the toilet with disinfectant cleaner. Allow to sit for three minutes, then wipe down. Address buildup with an acid bowl cleaner. Only a small amount is needed on a swab for a cleaning that is 10 times more effective than scrubbing with a powdered cleanser.
