  • Save money on fabric-softener sheets. Moisten an old washcloth with inexpensive liquid softener and place it in the dryer with your laundry; remoisten for each load, and you'll never have to buy dryer sheets again.

  • A ball of aluminum foil in the dryer also eliminates static.

  • A wet towel works with light fabrics and delicates.

  • Two pinches of salt in the laundry will work in place of color-safe bleach.

  • Keep children's school-lunch drink cold by freezing a juice box overnight, then putting it in their lunch boxes the next morning. By the time they're ready to drink, it's nice and cold.
