The International Association of Culinary Professionals recently presented its Cookbook of the Year Award to Elizabeth Schneider for her Vegetables from Amaranth to Zucchini: The Essential Reference.
Schneider also received the Jane Grigson Award for distinguished scholarship and depth of research.
Those awards and many more were made at the IACP's 25th annual conference in Montreal.
Other winners:
- American Classics, by the editors of Cook's Illustrated in best American cookbook category
- Baking by Flavor by Lisa Yockelson in the bread, other baking and sweets category
- Zuni Cafe Cookbook by Judy Rogers in the chef and restaurants category
- Michael Chiarello's Casual Cooking in the general category
- Betty Crocker's Living with Cancer in the health special diet category
- 1,000 Indian Recipes by Neelam Batra in the international category
- Felipe Fernandez-Armesto in the literary food category for Near a Thousand Tables: The History of Food
- Italian Classics, also by the editors of Cook's Illustrated, in the single subject category
- Joseph Bastianich and David Lynch for Vino Italiano: The Regional Wines of Italy in the category for books on wine, beer or spirits
The Julia Child Award to the author of the best first cookbook went to Dale DeGroff for The Craft of the Cocktail
- Diana Kennedy, author of seven books on Mexican cooking, was honored with the IACP's Lifetime Achievement Award. Kennedy has spent more than 45 years researching and recording Mexican foodways.
