At the Western States Antique Faire in Redondo Beach, Calif., meet a dealer who specializes in American Historical Staffordshire plates. Learn about the various designers, and see the patterns that are skyrocketing in value.

This soup bowl was made by Enoch Wood, one of the most famous Staffordshire potters. He used the distinctive shell border on all of his plates.

This Enoch Wood platter depicts Niagara Falls from the American side and has a very distinctive shell border.

Two-hundred years after the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock, Enoch Wood made this commemoration plate. It's a common design, valued at $395.

J&R Clews made some pieces with amusing characters. This bowl is called Dr. Syntax Entertains at College. Dr. Syntax was a popular literary character of the time. This piece is priced at $1,950. It has had some restoration, but it is very hard to see.

This platter was made by one of The Ridgeway pottery companies. It's going for $850 because it has been restored.

This bowl and base are sold as a set. The design is the Octagon Church in Boston. Both are reticulated around the edge. This is a very rare set by Ridgeway and goes for $3,000.

This gravy boat base is an American Beauties piece by Ridgeway. All of the American Beauties pieces have a distinctive border. The scene depicts a Boston church.

The plate depicts Thomas Jefferson, General Lafayette, George Washington and Governor Clinton of New York.
