At the J&J flea market in Brimfield, Mass., collectibles expert Terry Kovel finds salvaged items from the Bates Fabric Mill in Maine. The Bates Fabric Mill was a popular maker of bedspreads in the 1940s and '50s. Some of the most interesting finds are the patterns that were used to determine the placement of thread on the looms. Today, sewing and quilting enthusiasts are framing them for use as unusual decorator items.
