Travel to the All American Collectors Show in Glendale, Calif., to find antique cast-iron mechanical banks! Mechanical banks became popular around 1880, and today they're very valuable to collectors. Some cost thousands of dollars each!

This Uncle Sam mechanical bank is more than 100 years old and priced at $6,000. It's in excellent condition, with most of its original paint intact. Dealer Clive Devenish points out that if this piece had 15 percent less paint, its value would be reduced to $3,500.

Mechanical banks were first introduced in 1868. Although most have no markings to indicate who made them, there are books and catalogs that can be referenced.
