At the Metrolina Expo in Charlotte, N.C., collectibles expert Ralph Kovel finds antique tip trays. Tip trays were used in cafes and saloons at the turn of the 20th century and often featured advertisements on their metal surface. Their amazing detail is what sets the price. Some cost up to $300!

Tip trays were used for advertising as well as keeping tips.

This tray dates back to the 1900s and sells for $300.

This one sells for $425. It's very popular with collectors of old ship memorabilia.

Here's a less-expensive one, selling for $200 because it has some scratches.
