Bargaining is part of the flea market experience, so don't be embarrassed to ask for a lower price for the collectible that's caught your fancy. Here is a series of key bargaining phrases:
  • "How much are you asking for this?"--The dealer will generally quote the marked price of the item.

  • "What will you take for it?"--In general, this question can drop the marked price as much as 10 percent.

  • "Is that the best you can do?"--Sometimes this question will bring the price down another 5 to 10 percent.

  • "How about ... ?"--Tailor this question to reflect your own realistic and reasonable offer. At worst, the dealer could reject the offer, but he or she might just accept it, and you'll walk away with a fabulous flea-market find at a bargain price.
