Marianne Hunter creates one-of-a-kind enameled jewelry. More than 30 years ago, she was given the equipment for enamel work and left to figure out techniques on her own. She never looked back! Hunter creates pieces that evolve around one perfect fossil, diamond or semi-precious stone. Her imagery can be quite literal, such as jeweled kimonos and dragonflies, or it can be very abstract necklaces that seem influenced by all of nature.

Each of Hunter's pieces begins with three to five firings of black enamel. The images are built up in very thin enamel layers, which are applied dry with a tiny knife. A finished piece requires 12 to 60 firings--sometimes more. She applies 24-karat gold and silver foils cut into small, precise shapes.
