Materials:
Fimo Soft clay (two ounces of each)
- black - #9
- gold - #112
- red - #202
- violet - #61
- metallic clay
pasta maker with linguini attachment
rolling pin - acrylic or glass
NuBlade Kato clay knife or tissue blade
craft knife
Fimo glaze
seed bead
pin back
E6000 glue
Steps:
1. Condition the clay.
2. Make a Skinner blend using four different colors (figure A).
3. Stretch this clay from the thickest setting on the pasta machine gradually to #5. Cut off the ragged edges (figure B).
4. Using the scraps of the Skinner blend, flatten and put it through the linguini attachment of the pasta machine (figure C).
5. Place the "linguini" strips at random on the top half of the Skinner blend clay (figure D).
6. Fold over the other half of the Skinner blend with the linguini inside and flatten with a rolling pin (figure E).
7. Put through the pasta machine at the #1 setting.
8. Cut in half, stack and flatten with rolling pin.
9. Keep cutting in half, stacking and flattening until reaching a desired thickness and make a cane (a roll) with this striated clay.
10. Cut five slices of this cane.
11. Put one block of conditioned black clay through the #5 setting in the pasta maker.
12. Place the five slices of the cane in the shape of a dragonfly (figure F ).
13. With a craft knife, shape the five slices of the cane into the body of the dragonfly and the four wings.
14. Make the head of the dragonfly with a small piece of black clay about 1/4-inch in diameter. Push in two black seed beads for the eyes.
15. Bake in an oven at 265 to 275 degrees for 30 to 60 minutes.
16. Let Cool.
17. Glaze with Fimo glaze.
18. Add a pin back using E6000 glue.
