Materials

E-6000 or Goop
tin foil or cardboard
craft sticks
items for collage*
pin backing (for gluing)
metal base used for foundation of collage pin

* Items used for the collage can be collected at home, or from antique stores and tag sales. An assortment of old- and new-style jewelry parts, beads, buttons, dress and shoe clips, etc. are ideal.

Steps

  1. Lay out all the collage items. Select the parts that you would like to place together for the collage.
  2. Squeeze a small amount of glue (tablespoon size) onto tin foil or cardboard (do not squeeze out a lot of glue because it dries quickly).
  3. Determine the placement and positioning of the first item on the collage. Apply glue to the back of this item using the craft stick as your tool, and glue this part to the base.
  4. Continue Steps 3 and 4 until you have completed the desired design. Allowing some drying time (10 min.) between gluing the parts can help to ensure that the positioned items stay in place, especially for some parts that may be hard to work with.
  5. Allow the pin to dry completely before gluing the pin to the back side. For dry climates, 12 hours is sufficient drying time; 24 hours is recommended for damp or humid climates.

Tip

  • Regardless of when you might actually construct the pin collage, keep an eye out for interesting small items on a daily or weekly basis. Put these assorted small objects in a box for safe keeping until you're ready to use them.
