When you think of jewelry, gold and silver may come to mind, but for Teri Daniels, the first thing she thinks of is vinyl. With her instructions, you may want to trade in all those expensive pieces of jewelry for fun, creative and outrageous vinyl jewels.

Materials:

#8 gauge vinyl - clear, pink, blue, green or yellow
scissors - pinking or regular
accessories - colored paper, beads, buttons, glitter, gems, feathers, stickers, ribbon, confetti, charms, plastic lacing
clear drying craft glue
Peel 'N' Stick

Beads:

  1. Cut pieces of vinyl to the size you will need for bracelets, necklaces, hair bows, etc.
  2. To make vinyl "beads," start off by cutting out two squares, two circles and two triangles. Whatever shape you use, you will need a front and back. If desired, cut edges with pinking shears.
  3. Between the two shapes, place feathers, glitter, stickers, gems, etc., then glue lightly around the edges of the vinyl to hold the pieces together. Punch a hole anywhere in the bead with a paper punch.
  4. String a bead or beads on ribbon.
Pins:

To make pins, cut piece of vinyl in desired shape. Sandwich items between the shapes as with beads, and glue on a pin backing. Be imaginative: make a zig-zag shape into a bug or a bolt of lightning glue on gems, glitter and stickers to accent the pins.

Bracelets:

To make bangle bracelets, cut strips slightly larger than the desired width to fit around wrist. Make sure you can get your hands through if you do not make a clasp. Create a tube by folding each side in to the back center, overlapping one edge with the other, at least 1/8 of an inch. If needed, place a piece of Peel 'N' Stick to hold or glue the edges. Fill tube with confetti, beads, flat buttons, glitter, colored paper shapes or charms. Either glue, Peel 'N' Stick, or tie ends together with ribbon or plastic lacing by punching a few holes to allow the ribbon or lacing to go through.

Teri's Tips:

  • Use the old-fashioned clear adhesive tape. Frosted tapes will show up against the vinyl.
  • Circle shapes can be rolled into quick cones.
  • To make sure the jewelry stays together, lay a pressing cloth over the joint of the jewelry, and lightly iron it.
