Still Banks

Collectible Treasures : Episode COL-1103 -- More Projects »
Dealer: Bob Pierce

Location: Portland Expo Show in Oregon

Featured Items: Advertising banks and figural banks are glass banks that once held syrup or mustard. They are typically worth $30 apiece because they are fragile and there are not very many around. Tin litho banks and cast-iron banks were made before the 1940s.

Details: Dealer Bob Pierce has been selling still banks for decades and says he likes them for the history they chronicle. Most of the time banks were given back to the institutions that gave them away, but sometimes they were thrown in the garbage. Finding one in good condition can be a challenging task. The Cadillac of them all are cast-iron banks that were made before the 1940s.
