Field reporter Joe Zanger visits the home of Sandra Polk, owner of Polk Place Antiques, to explore the wonderful collection of Federal-era furniture that is displayed in the residence.

Figure A--American Federal furniture spans the years from 1790 through 1820. The style is formal with rich colors, elegant lines and dark woods.

Figure B--The details and types of wood used in a piece of Federal furniture can tell something about where it was made. The finest examples are usually found near large Eastern cities such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore.
