Making a Hand-Stitched Snowflake Card

Stitching your cards will give them a three-dimensional texture and using a frosty color palette will help them to stand out from the pack.

Materials and Tools:

two pieces of 8-1/2" x 11" slate blue card stock
8-1/2" x 11" chocolate brown card stock
8-1/2" x 11" retro snowflake scrapbook paper
paper cutter
craft glue
pencil
scissors
hole punch
double-sided tape
silver cording
protractor

Steps:

1. To create the front and back of the card, cut two 5" x 7" rectangles from the slate blue paper, round the corners with scissors.

2. Next, trim the retro snowflake scrapbook paper to a 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangle with rounded corners. Center and glue this patterned paper to one piece of blue card stock. This will be the front of your card.

3. Using a protractor, draw a 4-3/8" circle onto the brown card stock and a slightly smaller circle (4-1/8") onto the slate blue card stock. Cut these out and glue the brown circle onto the card's front.

4. Place eight evenly spaced pencil marks around the edge of the blue circle. Using the hole punch, punch out each pencil mark. Thread silver cording through the holes, crossing each cord in the center to create the retro snowflake design. Knot the cord's ends in the back.

5. Center and attach blue circle with silver threaded snowflake design to card's front with double-sided tape.

6. The front of the card is now complete and all that remains is to attach the card's front to the back. Place the two blue rectangles together and punch out eight holes along the card's top. Using silver cording, stitch the two pieces of blue cardstock together, leaving additional cording at each end to create a hanger for your card.
