Crafter Vivian Peritts of Marietta, Ga., demonstrates how to embellish an acrylic frame with a paper mosaic pattern.
Materials Needed:
- 8-1/2" x 11" box acrylic frame
- painter's tape
- DecoArt Americana acrylic paint: black, desert sand
- sea sponge
- satin and gloss finish photos with whites, blues, reds, pinks
- Tacky Glue
Steps 1 and 2
Use the painter's tape and paper to mask a 4-1/2" x 3-1/2" area in the center of the box frame.
Paint the sides and the remainder of the face of the frame black. Let dry.
Step 3
Use a sea sponge to apply the desert sand paint over the black. Allow some black to show through to simulate grout. Let dry.
Steps 4 and 5
Cut satin and glossy photos in the shapes you desire. We used whites for the background and red and blues for the spirals. Tip: If you were cutting real tiles, the cuts would be crude. Make nips in your curved shapes to be more realistic.
Glue the paper pieces onto the frame with Tacky Glue in any pattern you desire.
