To make four placemats:
Materials Needed:
- 4 old-fashioned linen hand towels or dish towels
- an old tablecloth in gingham (optional)
- scissors
- pins
- cotton thread and needle or sewing machine
- interfacing
Step 1
Cut four oblong pieces, each 13 by 9 inches, from the interfacing, four from the hand towels, and four from the tablecloth.

Align a piece of gingham and linen, correct sides facing each other. Place a piece of interfacing on the back of the linen. Pin together.

Sew the three fabrics together with a seam of 1/2-inch around the edges. Leave a gap along one side to turn the fabric the right way round.
