Stunning Butterfly Halloween Costume

To transform your child or yourself into a beautiful butterfly for Halloween, create one large wing over each eyelid and up the forehead using face paint and a wide brush. Line wings with black eyeliner and use white face paint to add dots to wings. Create the butterfly's body between the wings by first drawing an oval above the nose with a black eyeliner pencil. From the bottom of the oval, draw a long, skinny teardrop shape to the tip of the nose to create the butterfly's body. Above the oval, draw lines onto the forehead that curl slightly at the top to resemble antennae. Finish the look with sparkly pink lips. First apply pink lipstick, and then add a dot of glitter right in the center of the lips for shimmer. A black leotard, tights and wings are all you need to complete your costume.

Materials Needed:

  • face paint in magenta, orange, gold and white
  • craft brushes
  • black liquid eyeliner
  • kid-friendly gel glitter
  • pink lipstick

Make Butterfly Eyes

Use a wide brush to apply face paint over the eyelid and up the forehead in large strokes (Image 1). Continue to make the wing strokes under the eye from the inner corner of the eye moving outward and downward (Image 2). Next, use a small craft brush and orange paint to create highlights (Image 3). Repeat this step using gold face paint (Image 4) to add more definition to each wing.

Highlight Eyes

Use black liquid eyeliner and line the edge of the makeup (Image 1). To add highlights to the wings, use white face paint and a small makeup brush to randomly dot white on each wing tip, right on top of the black lines (Image 2). Also, add a dot to the inside of the eye. Use your fingers and carefully apply some kid-friendly gel glitter inside the black lines on the wings (Image 3). Be sure to keep the glitter away from the eyes.
