Artist Nicci Battilana of South Surrey, B.C., Canada, demonstrates how to paint her signature acrylic mermaid on a canvas strip for a fun, pop art bracelet.
Materials Needed:
- 10 oz. pre-primed canvas
- permanent black marker
- acrylic paint
- fabric medium
- fabric glitter paint
- acrylic jewels
- fabric glue
- flexible varnish
- snap closures
- scissors
- artist paintbrushes
- snap fastening tool
Steps 1 and 2
1. Draw a mermaid image on the canvas using a permanent black marker.
2. Cut an 8" x 1-1/2" strip of canvas fabric to size for the bracelet.
Steps 3 and 4
Mix fabric medium into the chosen acrylic paint colors.
Begin painting the image. Start with the skin tone, then the hair, clothes and background. Lastly, paint the eye color. Let dry.
Step 5
Outline the mermaid with black acrylic paint using a fine artist liner brush.
