Ground Breakers
Product Ideas
The homeowner wants to make the most of limited space while creating a pretty, tasteful landscape that fits a small space. Ken Laidlaw and Rob Takiguchi, landscape designers with the Cascade Design Group, want to create a naturalistic yard. They demolish and move the driveway, then terrace the yard by creating three levels. The top level is farthest from the house and serves as a parking area. The levels are separated by boulder retaining walls. The second level showcases a beautiful three-foot, naturalistic waterfall, which incorporates similar boulders found in the retaining walls. Another boulder retaining wall separates the second level from the level where the house sits. Privacy screens are created with hemlocks. Various other trees and perennials complement the landscape. The project transforms this yard into an inviting, attractive space.
